AS/NZS 2293 requires emergency lights and exit lights to be tested every 6 months to ensure that they will function correctly in the case of an emergency.

It is essential that emergency lighting and exit lighting will operate from the internal battery for a minimum of 90 minutes in the case of power failure. This is to ensure the safe escape of people from buildings in case of an emergency such as a fire or earthquake.

As emergency lights and exit lights are operating on standby and chargng the battery 24/7, these are prone to failure after several years. That is why it is important that these fittings are discharge tested regularly.
